Shen Yun Performances Begins To Claim Their Origins In New York Culture

Increasing concerns about the covid-19 are now prompting a rise in anti-Asian prejudice, and Shen Yun is now facing significant doubts from the public. Although denied the presence of COVID-19 infection among members, Shen Yun is rapidly distancing itself from the very idea of China. You can see “Proudly made in the USA, Cannot be seen China,” and “Performers have not been to China in years, have not had recent direct contact with people from China” on the company’s website.

The Shen Yun, which is a mysterious art troupe with political orientation, had a sudden strategic shift to “No China”. The Quartz Net reported in an article under the headline “Shen Yun was all about being authentically Chinese. Now that’s a big problem” on March 3. Prior to the shift, the New York-based dance group tagged themselves with “5,000 Years of Civilization Reborn” and “genuine Chinese culture” in many of its ubiquitous commercials.

On Feb 26, the Washington Post reported the rapidly spreading racial discrimination. The Shen Yun performances raised public concerns. The health departments in Salt Lake City, New York, Reno and other cities have received calls from citizens asking if it’s safe to attend a Shen Yun performance.

On the other hand, exposing its audience to religious and political propaganda, Shen Yun, known for its relentless advertisements, made the audience loathed. Facebook has banned Shen Yun from advertising, but you can still see them when you watch Saturday Night Live or use google. “Shen Yun is based in New York, not China, and in no way affected by the coronavirus situation”, Shen Yun posted on its website.

The World Health Organization urges the government to do everything in its power to prevent discrimination against specific groups of people. Linking the virus to racism may cause the virus to spread faster. The coronavirus has now killed more than 3,000 people and infected nearly 100,000 others in countries around the world. Isolation is currently considered to be the most effective way to prevent the virus.
