Author of “Be You”, Chris Cirak Shares Lessons of Becoming an Author and Speaker

Los Angeles, CA, USA – May 27, 2022 – In an exclusive interview with best-selling author, Chris Cirak shared lessons from his career with Media Specialist, Angel Tuccy.

Thank you so much for doing this with us. Before we reveal your life lessons, can you share a story with us about what brought you to this specific career path?

Life brought me here, as it does all of us! As a design consultant and educator, I had a very good work/life balance, with the flexibility to pursue passions, and nurture great friendships and relationships. But there came a point when I realized I was still living for outcomes, still trying to steer life, still seeking myself in accomplishments. I realized I was missing out on the true essence of living, which is to relinquish control and let it unfold in ways you could never conceive of, and in the process discover your authentic self.

Can you share an interesting story to give our readers some insight into your personal growth?

The most interesting part of personal growth is breaking through the resistance. It’s essentially a story of resistance that we all share. We think our life should happen one way, while life is happening another way. We create ideal visions for ourselves that avoid the parts of ourselves that are hurt, while life is focused on bringing us those very lessons so we can heal. And then, somewhere in the midst of it all, your authentic self starts to emerge and your true calling comes into focus. Accepting your true calling is never comfortable because it means personal growth, and growth requires healing, which is never pleasant. But you feel compelled to do it anyway. When it comes to public speaking, I’m naturally an introvert, a very private person. Sharing my insights into living, being, and thinking with others… is something I’ve had to nurture within myself. But at the end of the day, that’s what life is all about. Expanding beyond who you are now, witnessing your own unfolding, is a great adventure.

Were there any funny mistakes you made along the way? Did your mistakes teach you any lessons?

I wound up recording the audiobook version of “Be You” four or five times because, with each pass, the voice I ended on was significantly different from the voice I started with. I had to start over until the voice matched throughout. When you’re in the middle of something, life isn’t always funny. But as long as you recognize you’re growing and evolving, it’s much easier to keep moving forward. Ultimately, there aren’t any “mistakes”. Everything is simply a learning experience. Always be patient, kind, and understanding with yourself. In the experience of being you, everything is valid.

You are a successful leader. Which character traits do you think were most instrumental to your success?

1. Desire to learn and question

I’m a student of life and take every opportunity to dive deeper. Even as a 12-year-old I remember hearing friends talk, but instead of taking their words at face value, I would ask myself “what motivates them to say that”?

2. Willingness to be vulnerable

We have to live from our heart space. Anything else means you’re in your head, planning, controlling, living for outcomes. Developing techniques to keep our heart space open is crucial. For me, it’s experiencing myself as a “drop in the ocean”.

3. Ability to empathize

The ability to listen, observe and feel what others are going through is incredibly powerful. When the person speaking feels heard, seen, and understood, it creates connection and trust that leads to better communication and higher-quality relationships.

Are you working on any exciting new projects now?

I just completed the audiobook version of “Be You”, as it had been a big request from audiences for whom English was not their first language. Hearing it in my own voice is a unique experience. Available on Audible.

Can you briefly share what makes you an authority on personal growth?

Any sense of authority I have is a result of the amount of time I’ve spent on self-reflection, self-healing, and self-growth. For many years, I attended every single talk, workshop, and event in the self-help space. I read every blog, and book, and watched every video, until gradually my own voice started to emerge. We become experts at the things we give our attention to. And the things we give our attention to are usually the situations in life we strive to overcome. In essence, our obstacles become our calling. And I’ve overcome a lot.

Because of the position that you are in, you are a person of great influence. If you could inspire a movement that would bring the most amount of good to the most amount of people, what would that be?

To be you, of course. The most important aspect of being yourself is that you live by your inner truth, not an outer one imprinted on you by a world that doesn’t know you. How can you tell your inner truth from a conditioned one? Well, your inner truth never feels threatened by the truth of others, whereas the conditioned one is based on comparison and defensiveness. Anywhere you see injustice in the world, of people imposing their will on others, it’s always committed by people who live in their heads, who believe they are in sole possession of the truth.
