“Housewife Chronicles by Jennifer Snow is a contemporary women’s fiction novel around a suburban housewife named  Beth Cartwright, her dead husband Howard, and Howard’s mistress — who is also Beth’s next-door neighbor and former yoga instructor — Gina Thompson. Two weeks before Howard bites the dust, Beth learns of his affair with Gina, which is suspect for obvious reasons and, coincidentally, makes both the wife and side hustle suspects too. Beth and Gina are each given their own voice in first-person narratives that swing between the ladies… like Howard did. Gina was in love and is heartbroken. Beth wasn’t so much and is now saddled with some serious side-eye from law enforcement, kids that probably should have gone with Howard when they ask things like, “Did you kill Dad?”, and a neighborhood tribe of frenemies with ulterior motives and gossip to spare.

“Jennifer Snow is the absolute queen of snarky wit and acerbic colloquy, and Housewife Chronicles is the award we all get to share in. Beth is as cynical as they come and Gina is as simple-minded as they come, but dang it if we don’t love them both. Beth’s defense posturing takes full flight when she figures out that she’ll be the fall-gal for whoever murdered her husband if she doesn’t find out who really did it. This search manifests in some seriously hilarious situations, such as eavesdropping from a toilet stall in a night club, steps that apparently Detective Banks can’t manage. The writing is clean and tight, and while some of Gina’s blubbering makes me want to shake some sense into her, it’s easy to root for both women who, despite being murder suspects, were both equally victims to Howard being a proper, first-class jerk. The mystery element is fun but I’m just here for Gina’s hung twin brother, Gino. Ciao! Very highly recommended.”
