AIOT Hotel Scene, Le YiZhu’s Ambition Behind the Unmanned Hotel

The new crown epidemic has made “unmanned contact” a new trend. In addition to the use of new products such as food delivery robots, disinfection and cleaning unmanned vehicles, “unmanned smart hotel” is also accelerating the unmanned hotel scene. To put it simply, “Unmanned Smart Hotel” uses robots, Internet of Things equipment, etc. to replace manual services. Guests make online reservations, check in with their faces, and control the lighting, curtains, air conditioning and other facilities in the room through voice control, intelligent induction, etc. “No contact”.

Alibaba’s unmanned hotel “Fei Zhubuke” launched in November 2018 in Hangzhou is a full-scene face recognition hotel with room prices ranging from 1,000 to 3,000 Yuan. It is understood that in this epidemic, the number of “room stays” and “total number of services” of “Fei Zhubuke” remain below “1:0.5”, which is much smaller than “1:2” of traditional hotels. Whether it is the special needs in an epidemic situation or the pressure of rising labor costs in the hotel industry, unmanned smart hotels seem to give a new way out. The author recently came into contact with an unmanned smart hotel “Le YiZhu”, with an average room price of 200-400 Yuan, mainly in the mid-range market.

“Le YiZhu” was established in 2016. The first unmanned smart hotel was launched in Chengdu in October 2017. Currently, there are 9 stores opening in Chengdu, Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Hangzhou and other places, and another 21 stores are in preparation. According to COO Li Zhan, Le Yizhu’s average annual occupancy rate is over 90%, and the average repeat occupancy rate is 85%. Guests can book a room on Leyizhu official website/App/applet, and Ctrip and other OTA platforms, check in with face recognition, and be guided into the room by a robot. The rooms are fully automatic, with automatic adjustment of doors and windows, air conditioning, TV, lighting, and etc. The entire service is completed by robots, and only 1-2 store managers are needed to handle emergency situations online in each store. Five minutes after check-out, the room is automatically cut off from water and electricity, and the cleaning of the rooms is the responsibility of the “room wife”. Li Zhan introduced that “Fangsao” is not a Le YiZhu employee, but uses a Didi driver-like model to receive online orders for cleaning services, and settles labor fees for each order.

The current mass tourism travel era is booming, and the lodging industry has huge market potential. But the hotel industry is in an era of meager profit due to many industry pain points; industry changes are taking place. It is not difficult to find that unmanned smart hotels such as “Le Yi Zhu” are significantly lower in operating costs such as labor than traditional hotels. Li Zhan said that the operating cost of “Le YiZhu” is 60% lower than traditional hotels of the same level, including labor cost savings and energy consumption savings from automatic control of water and electricity. In addition, traditional hotels have to share the cost of halls and other pooling costs, and control the vacancy rate, so the number of rooms is generally around 80-120, which also limits the location to a certain extent. Le YiZhu has no lobby itself, which can save 25% of the cost of decoration, and the cost of pooling is small. There is no limit to the minimum number of rooms, which expands the location selection area. For example, Li Zhan, in a location with a small available space such as the city center, “Le YiZhu” can open a 20-room mini hotel. Innovations such as this have completely solved many pain points such as heavy asset, high cost, homogenization, low stickiness and low occupancy rate of the hotel industry; it has promoted the reform of the hotel industry and may even reshape the entire hotel format.

As we all know, the basic element of AIOT is data, and Le YiZhu Unmanned Smart Hotel just solves the pain points of the data collection scene. In the future, Le YiZhu Unmanned Smart Hotel will empower smart new retail and create an experiential smart retail space under the Internet of Things environment. “Le YiZhu” also hopes to use the hotel room as an entrance and use data collection to portray guests, so as to accurately obtain various needs of guests. Specifically, “Le YiZhu” can sense the feedback of customers on smart homes through Internet of Things devices, which can not only improve technical solutions, but also directly sell mattresses, TVs and other products.

At present, “Le YiZhu” is still dominated by the direct mode. Next, it will focus on developing the franchise model and increase the speed of opening stores by exporting Internet of Things solutions to franchisees. With the commercialization of 5G and technological innovation, Le YiZhu will eventually open the C-end channel of smart home with a hotel as a scene to create a smart life system that extends to the fields of clothing, food, housing, transportation, medical care, pension and finance. When thousands of households are using Le YiZhu’s products and cloud; Le YiZhu will become a veritable industry unicorn. In the end, Li Zhan revealed an amazing goal: “The ultimate goal of Le YiZhu is to create a free hotel”; by then the entire hotel format will be completely overturned; it will even reshape human living habits and values.

In the AIoT track, hotel scenes are highly standardized, and it is easier to carry out large-scale intelligent transformation; it is the best scenario to put in; but factors such as data security, user experience, and cost investment are urgently needed to be resolved. No matter what kind of factors, the application of AIoT technology in the hotel scene will be a long-term trend. Compared with the fragmented C-end, the hotel scene may also be completed in advance.
