rrNew Delhi, Wednesday, April 30 – Viewers wouldn’t have imagined of witnessing a super finish of a mind-blowing match in the 19th match of Indian Premier League in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday when Rajasthan Royals defeated Kolkata Knight Riders surprisingly on boundary count after the tie in 20-20 over game and fisnhing Super Over again by leveling the scores.

RR skipper Shane Watson was lucky with the coin at Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi, and elected to bat first. The opener Ajinkya Rahane seemed determined of scoring big and did the same by hitting 72 runs of 59 balls (4 x 6 and 6 x 1), however Karun Nair succumbed earlier in Vinay Kumar’s over, scoring just a single of 5 balls.

Wicketkeeper – batsman Sanju Samson smashed four attractive boundaries but failed to give desired support to Rahane, who was expecting a solid partnership from the other end. A ray of hope appeared as soon as RR captain Watson arrived on the crease. With five boundaries, the 32 year old right-handed batsman hit 33 runs facing 24 balls before being stunned in 16th over by a Manish Pandey, who made him depart from the 22 yards pitch by hitting the stumps at the right time.

The new batsman Stuart Binny was dismissed at zero when Morne Morkel took the charge. The ‘not out’ pair Steven Smith (19 runs of 11 balls; along with couple of boundaries) and James Faulkner (2 runs of 1 ball) managed to take the team’s total above the mark of 150 and set the target of 152 runs against Kolkata Knight Riders, who lately sent Royal Challengers Bangalore at the back foot in the wake of a mind-boggling catch by Chris Lynn.

Gautam Gambhir kicked off the second innings and smashed 45 runs of 44 balls, including four boundaries. The senior cricketer was calm and composed yesterday and strong-minded to hit confidently after being out on zero consecutively in three innings. But he was sent back to the pavilion by Rajat Bhatia, falling short of five runs to hit the first half-century of the IPL season 7.

The young wicketkeeper Manvinder Bisla lost his wicket to Kane Richardson, while Jacques Kallis and Manish Pandey were dismissed by Pravin Tambe. Suryakumar Yadav put forward an amazing show with the bat and struck 31 runs of 19 balls (4 x 3 and 6 x 1), but before he could travel a long distance, James Faulkner trapped him in the first ball of 19th over.

Shakib Al Hasan was superb to watch as he poured hundred percent efforts to win the match, though didn’t succeed on that part but imparted huge role in taking the excitement of cricket into the ‘super over’. When Robin Uthappa, Vinay Kumar and Piyush Chawla threw their crucial wickets on a zero, things got complicated for KKR. Sunil Narine anyhow changed the strike and brought Shakib to hit the last ball who managed to run a couple of runs, making his team to level the RR’s score.

In the super over, Kolkata Knight Riders were defeated by men in blue cap despite Shakib’s tremendous efforts. Smith and Watson also made the same score in the extra over game, but Rajasthan Royals won the match as they hit maximum boundaries in their innings as compared to KKR. The final show of both the teams in UAE ended in a true thrill. Now, Mumbai Indians will face SRH today at Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Dubai.
