kings elevenDubai, Tuesday, April 29 – Fifth victory for Kings XI Punjab on Monday was adequate enough to take the squad and mentors on the cloud nine. By this time, IPL 7 is considered one of the best seasons for George Bailey’s boys – who poured their hundred percent efforts to get five on five without losing their confidence at any stage.

Facing Royal Challengers Bangalore at Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Dubai, a day ago, Kings XI Punjab won the toss and elected to field first. Having big names like Virat Kohli, Chris Gayle, Albie Morkel, Yuvraj Singh and AB de Villiers in the list, RCB was likely to set a humongous total on the score board, however, audience’s hopes fell when destructive batsman Gayle had to depart in the second over post hitting massive shots around the ground in the first six balls.

With a couple of sixes and fours, Gayle scored 20 runs of just 7 balls. Another jolt was observed when wicketkeeper – batsman Parthiv Patel, all-rounder Kohli, 29 year old Yogesh Takawale and right-handed batsman AB de Villiers were sent back to the pavilion after scoring, 2, 4, 0 and 17 runs, respectively. Almost half of the team was dismissed within 10 overs by sharp bowling attack of Kings XI Punjab’s bowlers, causing major setback for RCB, who direly needed a victory yesterday for being a tad up in the rank chart.

Yuvraj Singh (35 runs of 32 balls) provided the pace to the innings of Royal Challengers Bangalore and smashed three boundaries and a six before succumbing to Rishi Dhawan. Morkel (15 runs in 14 balls) also hit a six but failed to be at par with the hopes of viewers, who were anticipating a remarkable knock from him as things weren’t in support of RCB. Mitchell Starc made the rising rate a bit lower for the reason that he scored 8 runs facing 17 balls. The not out pair ‘Varun Aaron’ and Ashok Dinda correspondingly scored 11 and 2 runs. For the loss of 8 wickets, the men in red dress set an achievable target of 125 runs.

Chasing was easy to some extent for KXIP as Cheteshwar Pujara and Virender Sehwag started well though the opener lost his wicket early to Ashok Dinda after hitting 10 runs (4 x 1). Wicketkeeper-batsman Wriddhiman Saha and Glenn Maxwell were dismissed at 2 and 6 runs facing 6 balls apiece by Varun Aaron. Maxwell failed to continue his superb show this time but it hardly caused any hindrance in the team’s road to victory in the fifth match.

David Miller was in at no. 5 and that too with a bang. Four boundaries in a short innings of 26 made RCB bowlers to feel the pressure of approaching defeat. Yuzvendra Chahal trapped him in 12.2 overs. The remaining job was done by skipper George Bailey (16 runs of 16 balls) and Rishi Dhawan (23 runs of 22 balls; 4 x 1) when 7 balls were yet to be bowled. Kings XI Punjab are content after winning all the games they have played yet, while on the other hand, Royal Challengers Bangalore are standing on the verge of deep trouble. If they remain on the back foot in forthcoming matches, then things will be difficult for them to enter in the final rounds of the ongoing tournament.
