kings elevenSharjah, Monday, April 21 – Audience sitting at Sharjah Cricket Association Stadium witnessed an amazing show between Kings XI Punjab and Rajasthan Royals on Sunday, when the former thrashed the latter one by seven wickets. Indian Premier League is all about scoring big runs and setting difficult run chase for the opponents. Similar display was visible a day ago when team Punjab turned lucky with the coin and chose to field first against Rajasthan Royals.

Abhishek Nayar (23 runs) gave a certain start to their squad before succumbing to Murali Kartik, along with Ajinkya Rahane (13 runs), who was a run out victim when George Bailey hit the stumps. In their short innings, both Nayar and Rahane stuck a couple of boundaries.

The 22 yards pitch then had the young wicketkeeper-batsman Sanju Samson who seemed determined to stand apart right from the beginning of the match. The 19 year old was good with bat and shows his skills of hitting massive strikes throughout the time he spent on the crease. With three boundaries and four sixes, he played a knock of 52 runs of 34 balls before Parvinder Awana trapped him from an astounding piece of bowling.

In the midst of sharp bowling attack of Kings XI Punjab, skipper also showed a ray of hope to his teammates by striking a beautiful half century, which comprised three sixes and 5 boundaries. Akshar Patel was the man who made him walk back to the pavilion in 13.1 overs.

The new batsman Stuart Binny though faced 8 balls, but he was able to score just 12 runs, which consists of a six as well. Mitchell Johnson got him early when 16th over was in progress. Both Steven Smith and James Faulkner stayed ‘not out’ till the end, hitting 27 and 8 runs, respectively. Smith’s 5 boundaries was truly attention fetching. On the loss of 5 wickets, RR set the target of 191 runs after 20 overs.

In reply to a good score, Cheteshwar Pujara (40 runs) and Virender Sehwag kicked of KXIP’s innings. However, the first shock for the team came in the second over when Sehwag (2 runs of 7 balls) was departed by Dhawal Kulkarni. Wriddhiman Saha couldn’t do any well as he also left after hitting a couple of runs. But then arrived destructive hitter Glenn Maxwell, who played an unforgettable knock of 89 runs from only 45 balls. The 25 year old batsman from Australia fell short of 11 runs to score a century after being surprised by an unexpected spell from Kane Richardson.

The real sensation was yet to arrive with David Miller who smashed Rajasthan Royals’ deep bowling line up by hitting 51 runs of just 19 runs, comprising 6 sixes. Miller and Pujara made Kings XI Punjab to register second consecutive win in the IPL 7 series with 8 balls remaining. In today’s match, a mega show is anticipated between Chennai Super Kings and Delhi Daredevils in Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi.
