FIFA World Cup 2014 ‘Winner’ Back Home; Receives Grand Welcome

argentinaGermany, Wednesday, July 16 – Germany, the winner of FIFA World Cup 2014,  finally returned to home. This time with a trophy! The winning team of Germany, which imparted huge role to be at the leading stage at the end, received grand welcome from the countrymen. Right from the airport to Berlin’s landmark Brandenburg Gate, massive crowd was seen.

Germany skipper Phillip Lahm, Erik Durm, Mats Hummels, Benedikt Höwedes, Thomas Muller, Sami Khedira, Mesut Oezil, Andre Schuerrie, Toni Kroos and 22-year-old Mario Götze – the star of the grand finale – cheered while riding an open-deck bus. To witness the historic event, die-hard football flooded the streets. Dancing and smiling fans were alone indicating how it feels to be the ‘champion’.

On the other hand, despite losing a close contest against the German squad, Lionel Messi led Argentine team was also greeted at home. President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner welcomed the skipper, coach Alejandro Sabella and all the footballers who left no stone unturned to stop Germany from hitting the ball to the net. It was just Götze’s moment when goal was done in the extra-time and turned decisive for his team, which won World Cup soccer title for the fourth time. Argentina fans were happy to see their heroes home though they missed the opportunity to lift up the winner’s trophy after 24 years. One month long football carnival lately ended on July 13 when Germany beat Argentina with the score of 1-0 in the final match, which was played at Estádio Maracanã, Rio de Janeiro.
